Kingdom League and the Ekklesia: Restoring Elders in the Gates

Throughout Scripture, God’s people were more than individuals or isolated congregations. They were a covenant community—called to worship, serve, and seek the welfare of the places where God had planted them.

Kingdom League International is both a church and an association of churches, ministries, and ministers. We exist to help leaders build relationships, strengthen cooperation, and serve the purposes of King Jesus in their cities and regions. Our heart and our purpose is to serve our Father’s purpose in this generation. 

To that end, our heavenly Father entrusted a strategy to Tim Taylor, now called “One Church One Day.” That very name has many meanings.  First, it is a simple strategy that empowers churches in a city or region to establish continual prayer 24/7 throughout the year.  It is simple and sustainable if local congregations collaborate within a jurisdiction.  It helps build our Father’s house of prayer for all nations.  As we collaborate as one, we become an answer to Jesus prayer in John 17:20-21, where He prayed we’d become one with Him, our heavenly Father, and with each other.  Finally, it also points to “the day of the LORD.”

The strategy God entrusted to Tim is actually an ancient blueprint.  He spent 30+ years testing it and proving it.  The results of simply praying and obeying helped over 10,000 leaders across more than 38 nations. By 2012, they reported that 34 houses of prayer had been launched from their efforts, along with the start of 40 churches.  We’ve long since lost count.

The strategy is just that.  A strategy.  It is not a ministry, but a mobilization strategy, and our heart is merely to offer it to help leaders mobilize and connect the church in their respective cities and regions.

From Prayer Strategy to Covenant Relationship

One Church One Day is a practical strategy that helps churches establish sustained prayer, grow in unity, and work together to transform their communities.

Any church, ministry, or leader can use this strategy. Participation in One Church One Day does not require affiliation with Kingdom League International. We are merely the stewards of the strategy. 

However, as leaders pray and work together, deeper relationships often begin to form. Prayer produces trust. Trust creates opportunities for covenant. Covenant provides a foundation for leaders to serve their community together with greater clarity, strength, and accountability. In fact, it helps lay the foundation for the Church in a city or region that is made up of many local congregations.

This is where a Kingdom League may help.

A Kingdom League is a covenantal expression of the Church within a city, region, or ministry network. It provides a framework through which diverse churches, ministries, and ministers can honor one another, maintain their unique assignments, and still work together as one Church.

Restoring Elders in the Gates

In Scripture, the city gates were places where elders gathered to pray, deliberate, judge wisely, and help guide the affairs of the community. It is an expression of God’s government, on earth, as it is in heaven.  Think of it in terms of Isaiah 9:6-7. 

Restoring elders in the gates does not mean creating another ministerial meeting. It means establishing trusted relationships among spiritual leaders who are willing to seek the Lord together and serve their community in the context of a covenant.  Not just any covenant.  But rather, following Nehemiah’s example and helping facilitate a restoration of God’s covenant with His people.  So, in our case, the covenant is merely agreeing to do what God’s word says to do.

These leaders can help the Church:

• Discern what the Father desires for their city or region.

• Strengthen prayer and cooperation among congregations.

• Address spiritual and practical challenges together.

• Encourage righteous leadership throughout the community.

• Build lasting relationships across denominational and cultural lines.

The goal is not uniformity. The goal is covenantal cooperation under the leadership of King Jesus.

A Service, Not a Requirement

A genuine apostle does not need Kingdom League International’s permission nor our pattern to establish covenant and government in a city or region.  If they are called, they are gifted and anointed to establish government along with the prophets, teachers and other ministers Christ has appointed in a jurisdiction.

Those whom Christ has called and equipped can do this without us. We honor their authority, calling, and responsibility before the Lord and we cheer them on.

However, for those who would like to glean from our pioneering experience. We can offer consultation, training, relational support, and tested frameworks for covenant, government, and collaboration. We do not come to take over someone else’s assignment. We come alongside leaders who invite us to serve with them as we collaborate to see our Father’s will done.
